Job Summary
The laboratory of Professor Gabor Marth (http://bioinformatics.bc.edu/marthlab) is relocating to the Department of Human Genetics (http://www.genetics.utah.edu/) at the University of Utah, as part of a new USTAR (Utah Science Technology and Research initiative) Center for Genetic Discovery. Our group develops computational algorithms and software tools for high-throughput genetic sequence analysis (gkno.me), as well as web-accessible methodologies for visually driven, real-time analysis of biomedical Big Data (iobio.io), and participate in large data analysis projects e.g. the 1000 Genomes Project (1000genomes.org), The Cancer Genome Atlas (cancergenome.nih.gov), and the International Cancer Genome Consortium (icgc.org). Our main project areas are:
Graph approaches for genome representation, mapping, genetic variant discovery, and variant interpretation
Reference-free methods for mutational analysis in pathogens and genetically inaccessible organisms
Algorithms for reconstructing tumor subclone evolution to dissect cellular heterogeneity in cancers
Web-based analysis tools for visually driven, real-time, interactive analysis of genomic Big Data
We are expanding our team with a number of postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and scientific and web programmers.
Responsibilities
We are currently seeking a postdoctoral researcher to drive the development of cutting-edge computational methods in one or more of the above areas, and apply them to large genomic datasets to facilitate discovery in genomic science and medicine. We are looking for an individual with an interest and background in algorithm design, experience with software development, coupled with a strong interest in solving outstanding problems in Biology and Genomics.
Applicants should value collaboration and teamwork while also being able to work individually. Postdoctoral researchers are expected to take a leadership role in collaboration with other groups at the University of Utah and other institutions; participate in the training of graduate students; interact with software engineers within the group; publish their work in peer-reviewed journals; and present their work in national and international meetings. A high degree of organization and professionalism is required. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package for highly qualified candidates. This position is available immediately.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant community of computational and experimental scientists. The Eccles Institute of Human Genetics on the University of Utah Medical School campus in Salt Lake City, Utah lies at the interface between basic and clinical sciences, creating ample opportunities for collaborations with clinical researchers and easy access to high-valued clinical datasets.
The institution is set in a unique recreational and geographical landscape that attracts a very diverse and productive scientific community.
Type
Benefited Staff
Additional Information
This position may require the successful completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen.
