Job Description:
This role is responsible for analyzing and driving technical aspects of life sciences/bioinformatics/biomedical informatics related projects. This includes working on optimizations and parallelization on bioinformatics and other life sciences codes in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams of business, user-experience and domain experts, and external industry collaborators. Work will also include providing hardware configurations and guidance to customers to deploy potential life sciences solutions. The life sciences architect makes high level design choices for the hardware and software structure, frameworks, protocols, algorithms and standards. Deliverables include solution blueprints, reference architectures, prototypes, white papers and other collateral.

5+ years of experience in algorithm optimization, data structures, data, vector and task parallelization techniques. Familiarity with concepts, applications and data processing within the Life Sciences.
Bachelors/Master's degree in Computer science or Bioinformatics.
2+ years of architecting and developing life sciences/bioinformatics solutions for High Performance Computing and/or Shared Memory systems. Experience programming genomic and sequence analysis applications. Parallel Processing skills in MPI, OpenMP, Pthreads, or other concurrency technologies.
Strong data analytics expertise along with statistical and algorithm development.
4+ years of experience with Linux/Unix, scripting languages and multithreaded programming. Implementation skills in C/C++, Python, Perl, Bash and AWK.
2+ years of experience with one of the following - Distributed Cloud Computing Architecture, Hadoop, HBase, MapReduce, pattern matching and filtering.
Additional Desired Qualifications
Good understanding of statistical methods as they apply to genomic and genome-wide genetic data.
Knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing, genotyping, gene expressions, or molecular diagnostics a plus.
Data warehousing and ETL experience.
Optimizing solutions on multicore architecture experience.
Knowledge of big data storage solutions that improve computational workflows.
Ability to communicate complicated technical issues to senior management in a compelling fashion.
Proven ability to create collateral and speak in front of customers.
Demonstrated ability to identify new technologies, standards, and architectures of importance.
Ability to define the requirements of future High performance Computing systems architectures and configurations.
