Job Description:

Job Summary:

As a Bioinformatician, the Research Specialist performs bioinformatic data analyses on multiple genomics data including next-gen sequencing (NGS), RNA-seq, DNA-seq, genome-seq, ChIP-seq, DNA methylation or bisulfite sequencing and microarray data; applies various genomics and NGS pipelines algorithms involving R package/language, Bioconductor, Python, and others to various genomics projects supported by the Center of Genomics; helps set up bioinformatics infrastructure and pipeline for the Center and be responsible for genomics data storage and backup; participates in writing manuscripts and helping prepare figures for grant applications; perform other duties as needed. Job Specifications: Master’s degree in relevant field required. Master’s degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, or biostatistics preferred. Doctoral degree preferred. Significant experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, or biostatistics preferred.

Knowledge:

Must have demonstrable knowledge and experience with data analyses on genomics data including next-gen sequencing (NGS), RNA-seq, DNA-seq, genome-seq, ChIP-seq, DNA methylation, or bisulfate sequencing and microarray data. Also, knowledge and experience on various NGS pipelines, algorithms involving R package/language, Bioconductor and Python with excellent coding ability required.

Essential Technical/Motor Skills:

Ability to work at a computer station for extended periods of time. Minimum 50 WPM keyboarding required. Essential Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact with Principal Investigators, collaborators, students, postdocs, technicians and support personnel of projects. Ability to work with a team to find solutions.

Essential Mental Abilities:

Ability to problem solve utilizing computer programming, computation biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics and genomics, as well as creativity to design and analyze experiments.

Essential Sensory Abilities:

Ability to see and interact with data visually and kinesthetically, ability to hear and verbally communicate to effectively understand and convey needed information in English.
