The Associate Scientist is responsible for conducting complex research activities with input from Supervisor, Scientists, and Research management. This position is responsible for assisting with project planning, product licensure, and lab activities.

Key responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:

- Technical – conduct assigned research work, including laboratory work and animal studies, data analysis, notebook updates, protocol/report preparation. Laboratory work involves seed preparation, optimizing yields, running assays, testing samples, preparing prototype vaccines, and developing potency tests.
- Interdepartmental – transfer of technology and discussion/communication at team meetings.
- Project planning – manage own project activities. Develop timelines for portions of project under their control.
- May serve as Study Investigator. Writes routine study protocols with moderate supervision. Assists in writing more complex laboratory and animal study protocols. Writes study reports for routine work with moderate supervision. Assists in preparation of complex reports.
- Performs literature searches and reads scientific literature as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Education:

* Required: BA/BS in Biology, Microbiology or related sciences OR equivalent work experience

Required Experience:

- Ability to conduct research project activities with minimal supervision
- Ability to plan project activities and meet timelines
- Must have experience with assay and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices required
- Must have good computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and data management software
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
- 5% Travel

Preferred Experience:

- Experience working with animals in vaccine development research or related field
- Familiarity with USDA product licensure requirements
- Familiarity with bacterial and virology/bacteriology techniques, and immunological and molecular techniques
