Computational Biologist (m/f) (14000005ZK)

The role:

Systems Biology expert in Neuroscience Discovery. Local contact for Computational Biology to technology experts inside and outside the company. Collaboration with consortia, academic partners, CROs and groups within AbbVie. Joining a multidisciplinary team to consult across company divisions / departments. Interfaces with colleagues in statistics, with laboratory as well as -omics and bioinformatic scientists and disease experts to understand their needs.
Driving strategies independently and collaboratively across Neuroscience within AbbVie towards discovery of new targets and biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases, also across global research sites. Analyzing the intriguing relationships between genome and proteome alterations, signaling pathways and response to targeted therapies, and their biological interpretation.
Expected to work with data from consortia using multiple high-dimensional datasets (e.g. imaging, genetics and epigenetics, genomics, proteomics) to investigate biochemical and genetic networks and pathways in neurological diseases with a focus on Alzheimer´s Disease. Ensuring effective communication and presentation of research activities at internal and external meetings.

Your Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Systems Biology, Bioinformatics or Computational Biology, ideally applied in the context of neurosciences Strong background in analyses of genetics, -omics and biochemical datasets and an understanding of the statistical principles that underlie current best practices in the field are desirable attributes.
Experience in data mining and analyses of big-data are required to design, develop and operate computational pipelines for analysis of high throughput multi-dimensional data and data visualization. Domain expertise in biomarker and knowledge engineering (master/meta data, ontologies) is a plus. Know-how in network/pathway analyses programs, enabling interpretation of results into disease understanding supported by basic understanding of Systems Biology and Neuroscience. Deep expertise in public pathway databases and biological data repositories. Experience with R or equivalent statistical software. Strong knowledge in one of the following fields: machine learning, statistical modeling, data mining, or information retrieval.
Passion for data analysis, solving technical problems and applying new technologies to further scientific goals. A keen interest in the relevant concepts in biology of neurodegeneration and genetics of Alzheimer disease as well as Multiple Sclerosis.
