Job Description:
Dr. Yuan Ji's lab at NorthShore University HealthSystem and University of Chicago is looking for a postdoctoral research fellow to conduct bioinformatics and computational biology research as part of a new Program for Computational Genomics and Medicine. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to work on exciting projects related to cancer genomic regulations and tumor heterogeneity. The main responsibilities include developing computational methods and analysis schemes, carrying out analyses (some on supercomputer), writing manuscripts, and managing genomic data. See http://www.compgenome.org for more information about research in Ji's lab. Competitive salary and benefit will be provided for successful candidate.
NorthShore University HealthSystem is a not-for-profit organization principally formed to provide quality healthcare services for the communities that it serves. NorthShore includes four Hospitals -- Evanston Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Highland Park Hospital and Skokie Hospital, the NorthShore Research Institute, the NorthShore Foundation, and the NorthShore Medical Group. The system has more than 2,000 affiliated physicians forming the largest medical group in metropolitan Chicago. Ji's lab hosts the Program for Computational Genomics and Medicine in the NorthShore Research Institute and is also affiliated with the Department of Public Health Sciences at The University of Chicago.
REQUIREMENTS:
* PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, molecular biology, statistics, electrical engineering, computer science or other related fields. This position requires strong background and experience in both computational science and biology. For applicants with statistical background, Bayesian modeling is required.
* Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
* Experiences of cancer research, molecular interaction network study, biomarker detection, or drug target identification.
* Hands-on experience with the analyses of omics data, such as DNA and RNA sequencing data, microarray data, proteomics data, miRNA expression data, and DNA methylation data.
* Proficiency in programming with multiple of R, Matlab, Perl, shell script, C/C++, or Python. Experience with high performance computing is preferred. Experiences on database (SQL) management and web construction are desired.
* Familiar with popular bioinformatics and statistics analyses, such as differential gene selection, gene set enrichment analysis, ANOVA, and survival analysis.
PREFERENCES:
* Capable of fluently communicating with bench scientists about biological questions and transforming them into computational tasks.
* Experience of using bioinformatics tools, such as (1) NGS pipeline tools like FastQC, BWA, Bowtie, GATK, SAMtools, Bedtools, IGV, ANNOVAR, and Galaxy , (2) MEME Suite for motif analysis, and (3) Bioconductor packages including limma, edgeR, and others.
* Experience of using bioinformatics resources, such as TCGA, ENCODE, UCSC Genome Browser, KEGG, TRANSFAC, miRBase, Gene Ontology, GEO, String, and Ingenuity.
