Job Description:
Post-Doctoral Associate
Biological Sciences
Mississippi State University

A highly productive lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Mississippi State University is seeking U.S.-trained PhD postdoctoral fellows interested in microbial structure and function. This newly established laboratory is fully funded and well equipped, and is located in the recently renovated Harned Hall at Mississippi State University (Starkville, MS). Our laboratory studies microbial responses in dynamic environments. Our research combines classical microbiology, animal models and genomics/transcriptomics to describe changes in microbial structure and function under a variety of environmental and host conditions. The successful candidate will be involved in studies to determine microbial change and translocation following host death using mouse models. The candidate must show a history of publications and experience using microbiological and molecular methods such as nucleic acid isolation, PCR, Q-PCR, bacterial culture, and metagenomic sequencing. Particular experience in bioinformatics analysis of large genomic data sets is highly preferred, and candidates should be familiar with specialized bioinformatics programs for functional analysis, databases, and statistical modeling. Proficiency in at least one programming language (such as R, python, perl) will be given additional consideration. The ability to communicate effectively with diverse collaborators and students both within the university and with other institutions is essential. For a review of our research and brief publications’ list please see: http://biology.msstate.edu/people/staff.php?id=hrj78. Please list times and dates when you might be available for a phone interview. After one to two phone interviews, top candidates will be asked to visit our laboratory in Mississippi for a formal interview. Salary and benefits are competitive. Opportunity exists for raises depending on experience and ability. Please contact Dr. Heather Jordan, Ph.D. at Jordan@biology.msstate.edu. To apply, complete the professional application (position #8524) online at www.jobs.msstate.edu. A curriculum vitae, cover letter and three letters of reference must be included with the professional application.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law. Females and minorities are encouraged to apply.
