The University of Chicago's Department of Medicine invites applications for the position of Chief, Section of Genetic Medicine. The ideal candidate is an accomplished program builder with a strong background in all aspects of medical genetics & personalized medicine, an experienced leader to support the Section's research and educational efforts, and has a national reputation in scholarship with independent grant funding. Joint appointments across departments and centers at the University are possible. Qualified applicants must have a doctorate, an established record of research excellence and productivity as evidenced by a strong publication record in high quality journals, and a demonstrated ability to develop an independently funded research program. Academic appointment will be at the rank of Associate or full Professor, commensurate with years of experience and accomplishment. Compensation includes an excellent benefits package.
Established in 2005, the Section promotes the development of knowledge that enables the translation of genetic discoveries to human disease and uses that knowledge to improve treatment and prevention of disease. This is accomplished through a combination of very active and successful research programs focused on quantitative genetics, systems biology and genomics, and bioinformatics and computational biology by Section faculty as well as extremely valuable collaborations with investigators within the Biological Sciences Division who are seeking to develop new and improved ways to identify genetic risk factors for complex disorders and drug response. In addition, the Department of Medicine is home to a robust educational program focused on young physician scientists and continuing education for faculty interested in extending new and ongoing research programs including genomics of disease and pharmacogenomics.
The Section of Genetic Medicine is currently comprised of 5 full-time faculty with diverse interests. The strength of the Section reflects the quality and dedication of its faculty, trainees and staff, and is enhanced by the rich environment at the University of Chicago. The Section has a large portfolio of grants that support translational investigations. The Chief will provide leadership, support and mentoring of faculty and have opportunities to teach and mentor students at all levels as well as postdoctoral trainees.
