The Department of Medicine will from Mars 2015 be one of the partners of a new IMI project focused on the discovery and validation of novel targets in inflammatory diseases (ULTRA-DD, Unrestricted Leveraging of Targets for Research Advancement and Drug Discovery).
Duties
This large scale project is a collaboration between the Karolinska Institutet, University of Oxford (UK) and the ETH in Zürich (Switzerland), with funding from the European Union and pharmaceutical company partners. ULTRA-DD will be conducted in close cooperation with the Structural Genomics Consortium in Toronto, Canada as well as with the biotech company DiscoveRx. The ULTRA-DD organization based at Karolinska Institutet, will initially comprise around 10 staff members, but is expected to grow as additional funding becomes available. Overall, ULTRA-DD will have +100 staff members in Sweden, Switzerland and in the United Kingdom; with activities e.g. in structural and chemical biology, antibody production and characterization as well as functional studies of human proteins in disease relevant assays.
