Reporting to the lead for Translational Research for scientific direction and to the Director of NL Support for administrative issues, the successful applicant will be responsible for leading the bioinformatics work for translational genomics projects carried out under the Translational and Personalized Medicine Initiative.

Duties include, but are not limited to, data analysis in various areas including whole genome sequencing, exome sequencing, de novo assembly, gene expression, methylation and detection of copy number variations. The individual will lead the data analysis of whole genome/exome sequencing data in addition to copy number variation detection from microarray data (e.g. comparative genomic hybridization).

SALARY: $44,061 - $61,788 per annum (Non-Bargaining)

  QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (1-3 years) in genomics and/or bioinformatics; completion of most coursework towards a masters degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology, computer science or a related discipline; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Extensive knowledge of genetics/genomics & bioinformatics and experience in the analysis of high-throughput genomic data e.g. microarray data (Agilent platform) and NGS data (Illumina and IonTorrent platforms) are required, as is experience with existing SNP array and NGS data analysis software such as AFT, Galaxy, PLINK, BWA, GATK, SNPeff, Tophat and Bowtie and bioinformatics data formats such as VCF, BAM/SAM, PED, FASTQ. Experience in developing pipelines and/or web-based systems, using R, SAS and SQL, and familiarity working in a UNIX environment would be considered an asset.

The ideal candidate must be a team player with a collaborative working style, good communication skills, and have the ability to pursue a scientific project independently, with proactive actions and an inner motivation to succeed in a focused scientific environment.
