Company : Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar Country : Role : Postdoc
In a pioneering international initiative, Cornell University and Weill Cornell Medical College established the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) through a unique partnership with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and has been in operation since 2002. WCMC-Q seeks candidates for a postdoctoral associate position in:
Genomics and Molecular Biology of Movement Disorders
The Abdel Aleem [http://qatar-weill.cornell.edu/aboutUs/fa/bios/AbdelAleemAlice.html] laboratory at WCMC-Q invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the area of genetics and biology of heritable movement disorders, in particular the group of neurodegenerative spastic paraplegias. The candidate will apply various molecular genetic and biology techniques, develop functional assays or experiments that are relevant to the identified genes/proteins, and run transfection-cloning experiments and tissue cultures. The candidate is expected to be able to search for the link between the genes identified and the pathophysiology of the specific disease presentations in order to develop the experiments’ relevant strategy and interpret the bioinformatics/genetics data in Mendelian inheritance context.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology of human neurological disorders or a closely related field. Prior in-depth experience specifically related to molecular genetics tools, quantitative transcription assays, Western blotting, in-situ hybridization, gene cloning and transfection techniques is required. Experience in stem cells isolation and their neurologic differentiation is a plus. Bioinformatics basic knowledge for the analysis of next generation sequence data is recommended. Candidates should be highly motivated and capable of working hard independently as well as in a team approach.
WCMC-Q is located in Education City, among other American universities, in Doha, Qatar, which is a rapidly growing research hub. The WCMC-Q research program offers a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment, endowed with a comprehensive support infrastructure. Details regarding the WCMC-Q research program and facilities can be accessed at http://qatar-weill.cornell.edu/research/index.html.
Salary is commensurate with experience and is accompanied by an attractive foreign-service benefits package, including fully furnished housing and a car allowance.
Qualified applicants are invited to submit a letter of application, outlining their interest in the position, along with their curriculum vitae which should include the names and contact details of three referees, to http://job.qatar-med.cornell.edu
Positions are open until filled. Please note that, due to the high volume of applications, only short-listed candidates will be contacted.
