ELIXIR Communications and Community Outreach OfficerELIXIRELIXIRUK-Cambridge ELIXIR is seeking an experienced Communications and Community Outreach Officer to join the dynamic and international team at the ELIXIR Secretariat in Hinxton, UK. The ELIXIR Hub is located at EMBL-EBI, Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, and has excellent facilities in an attractive campus environment in the Cambridgeshire countryside with transport provided to nearby Cambridge and Saffron Walden.
ELIXIR is a unique undertaking that consolidates Europe’s core bioinformatics resources, services, and national centres into a single, coherent infrastructure. Strong collaboration between our distributed Nodes will address current life-science data challenges that include quality curation of data, interoperable service interfaces and long-term sustainability of data resources.

The main purpose of this role is to work with ELIXIR Nodes to ensure that our communications, publications, social media and online presence promote ELIXIR’s progression as a first class research infrastructure for its users. The post holder will support ELIXIR partners in their efforts to ensure a coordinated communication strategy is embedded across Europe. The post holder will take responsibility for engaging with ELIXIR’s user communities to ensure the communications strategy responds to the needs of the scientific community. We are looking for a motivated, flexible self-starter with a proven ability to engage, collaborate and deliver.   The candidate will have a degree in life sciences or journalism/communications that can be applied effectively to the life sciences field. The candidate is a flexible self-starter that identifies opportunities, initiates projects and engages with ELIXIR champions to see them through to delivery.
* Excellent writing skills and a high level of literacy in English with a strong attention to detail. Working experience of other European languages is an asset.
* Practical experience supporting or running effective communications campaigns that include social media.
* Experience and interest in working in an international environment and distributed organisations. Experience collaborating on projects with people on many sites.
* Familiarity with general communications software. The post will require that you work with Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop. You will also need to keep up to speed with survey and mailing software, for example MailChimp and SurveyMonkey.
* Flexibility to travel periodically to other European countries to work with colleagues at ELIXIR Nodes and to promote ELIXIR at scientific conferences.
