Job Description:

A position, funded by the BBSRC, is available for a postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the molecular mechanism of stretch activation in muscle, using insect flight muscle (Lethocerus and Drosophila) as a model system. The aim of the project is to find out how the regulatory complex, troponin, senses stretch. The structure of the complex and the interaction of subunits within the complex will be investigated, as well as the association of troponin with other muscle proteins, and changes in the structure occurring when the muscle is stretched. The project will involve muscle mechanics, molecular biology, protein chemistry and spectroscopic techniques. This is a collaborative project with Professor Annalisa Pastore at King’s College, London, who will study troponin using biophysical methods.

The starting salary is £30,434 – £31,342 a year. The post is available from 1st April 2015 for a period of three years.
