Job Description:
Basic Function
The primary responsibility of a faculty member in the Virginia Community College System shall be to provide quality instruction for the students. The major emphasis shall be on good teaching by working with students in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities—to help the
student develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to become a better person, a better worker, and a better citizen.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for teaching introductory Biology lectures and labs, advising students and participating on committees and other campus and college-wide activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in the field or Master’s with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field. College level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience. Ability to use instructional technologies. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills. The successful candidate must be willing to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes with the ability to be flexible to work at any of campus location. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate training in any of the following disciplines is desirable: botany, genetics, bioinformatics, or cell and molecular biology. Additional freshman and sophomore courses may also be taught by the candidate based on their area of expertise. Experience in hybrid or online classes;college level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience; experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds and experience in Community College teaching desired.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Master’s Degree in the field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Biology or related field. The successful candidate must be willing to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes with the ability to be flexible to work at any campus location. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
