Job Description:
Postdoctoral Fellow in Quantitative Biology and Statistical GenomicsUniversity of Texas Southwestern Medical CenterGreen Center for Systems BiologyUSA-Texas-Dallas We are seeking a talented quantitative biologist at the postdoctoral level. This individual will work on a central problem in the Reynolds lab – developing a new description for cellular systems through the statistical comparison of genomic data across species. Large-scale efforts in genome sequencing have elucidated much of the parts list for thousands of species, but a general description of how genes collectively interact to produce functioning systems eludes us. Indeed, in many cases, the role of genome-scale data collection has been to increase the apparent complexity of biological systems through the discovery of new interactions, complexes, and molecules. How can we now distill from this large catalog of genetic information a quantitative understanding of the structure, function and evolution of cellular systems? This problem requires a new strategy; one not focused on detailed analysis of individual reactions in one or few model systems, but on a systematic analysis of properties shared across a diversity of systems. Our basic strategy is two-fold: (1) to carry out mathematical analyses of co-evolution and conservation across genomes and (2) to test the necessity and sufficiency of this information by the design and experimental characterization of non-trivial cellular systems.

The Reynolds lab is part of the Green Center for Systems Biology, an interdisciplinary environment that encourages study of biological organization and complexity across spatial scales. Interested candidates should contact Dr. Reynolds with a CV, cover letter and names of three references. (Kimberly.Reynolds@utsouthwestern.edu)
