Job Description:
Research Career Development Fellow - Computational Modelling of Developmental Systems University of Cambridge - Sainsbury Laboratory Location: Cambridge Salary: £38,511 to £48,743 Hours: Full Time Contract Type: Contract / Temporary Placed on: 13th April 2015 Closes: 31st January 2016 Job Ref: PT05341 ★ View Employer ProfileApplications are invited for Research Career Development Fellowships in the Sainsbury Laboratory. The positions are open to applicants of any nationality. With the intention of nurturing the next generation of interdisciplinary researchers in the field of plant developmental biology, the Fellowships provide an opportunity for talented junior investigators to develop their own research program and become creative leaders in the field.
The Sainsbury Laboratory is a new Research Institute, providing an outstanding scientific environment. It has excellent resources and core facilities, with state-of-the-art equipment including high performance computing, growth rooms, glasshouses and microscopy. It provides a collaborative research atmosphere where researchers can take risks in a supportive environment. We are seeking to appoint Career Development Fellows who can both contribute to and benefit from this environment. In particular we are looking for scientists with computational or mathematical modeling expertise and imaginative research ideas that will contribute to our understanding of plant development by elucidating the links between genotype and phenotype. Experience with plant systems is not required. Applications are welcome from researchers wishing to move into plant biology from any other study system.
Applicants will typically have between 3 and 6 years of postdoctoral experience and should be able to provide strong evidence of their potential to develop independent research programs.
Fellowships are for five years. Successful applicants will receive an initial three years of funding, with extension for a further two years contingent on a successful scientific review and will hold an appointment with the University of Cambridge. Funds include full salary, ranging from £38,511 to £48,743, an additional 30% Gatsby distinction award, benefits and £40,000 p.a. of unrestricted research support. As they develop into independent researchers, Fellows will be encouraged to apply for external funding. Fellows can apply for Research Group Leader positions within the Laboratory at any time.
Further details about the post, guidance on how to apply and information about the Sainsbury Laboratory are available on the Sainsbury Laboratory web site:
