We have a great opportunity at The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC) for a Bioinformatician to join our Platforms and Pipelines (P&P) Group who are responsible for delivering the BBSRC National Capability in Genomics (NCG). This group provides access to state of the art genomics technologies for research groups throughout the UK as well as delivering sequencing and genomics services to the associated Science Faculty groups and commercial customers.

The P&P Bioinformatician post will focus on performing primary data analysis for research projects from a wide variety of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms, including Illumina HiSeq, MiSeq, Ion Proton and PacBio RSII. These projects cover practically every NGS application from genome assembly, amplicon re-sequencing, exome capture, CHIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, microRNA-Seq and metagenomics.

The successful candidate will join a team of 3 Bioinformaticians and a Bioinformatics Team Manager and will be responsible for data analysis, producing bioinformatics pipelines for use with new sequencing applications delivered on HPC platforms, maintaining and improving current pipelines, increasing automation of tasks and supporting the project management team with bioinformatics and NGS customer enquiries.

To be considered for the Platforms and Pipeline Bioinformatician post, applicants will need the following qualifications, skills and experience:

• B.S. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or a related field with a significant related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficient in high-level programming / scripting languages such as Python, Ruby or Perl
• Good knowledge of computational methods for sequence analysis and interpretation
• Experience working with bioinformatics tools
• Experience of working in a rapidly changing technological environment
• Excellent communication skills
• To be able to communicate clearly with TGAC staff at all levels
