Bioinformatics Scientist Foundation MedicineComputational Biology MethodsUSA-MA-Cambridge Overview:
We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to provide technical expertise in analysis of high-throughput data associated with the development of a comprehensive tumor genomic profiling platform as a diagnostic product. This highly-skilled individual will work within the Computational Biology group to develop and maintain automated tools for processing and interpreting experimental data from NGS and additional platforms in support of the internal R&D program and as part of on-going comprehensive studies of mutations in tumor DNA and RNA.
Responsibilities:
* Work with a group of computational and molecular biologists focused on the using massively parallel sequencing technology for the characterization of genetic alterations present in tumor genomic DNA and RNA
* Develop, maintain and analyze QC metrics to support internal R&D and identify common failure modes
* Process, analyze and interpret high volumes of data as part of internal and external scientific studies
* Develop automated methods and software to support large-scale bioinformatics analysis
* Prepare and deliver presentations based on scientific and technical progress/innovations
* Work independently and prepare timetables, deliverables, and project schedules
Qualifications:
* Experience in processing of high-volume genomic data such as microarrays or NGS
* Experience in working with bioinformatics portals/databases such us UCSC Genome Browser, NCBI Entrez, dbSNP.
* Working knowledge of Python/Perl or other scripting language. Ability to understand and modify existing code, as well as develop new scripts.
* Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced, dynamic and results-oriented startup environment
* Ability to present data to a multidisciplinary audience in a clear and cohesive manner
* High energy level, a driving sense of urgency and a “can do” orientation
* Excellent teamwork, time management and organizational skills
* Strong scientific understanding of molecular biology and genomics
* Experience in cancer research, including a working understanding of computation approaches for cancer genome analysis, is highly desirable
* Prior experience in industry is preferred
* Experience in NGS data analysis is preferred
* PhD degree in Bioinformatics or related field; or MS with 3+ years of experience
