School of Biomedical Sciences
Applications are invited for a Research Associate/Assistant position in the Randall Division of Cell and Molecular Biophysics within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London.
The postholder will have (for Research Associate position), or be about to receive (for Research Assistant position) a PhD in physics, optics, microscopy, mathematical image analysis or related fields. PhDs in cell biology or immunology with extensive experience in fluorescence microscopy will also be considered. Practical experience in fluorescence microscopy, super-resolution microscopy and quantitative image analysis. Experience in sample preparation (cell culture, immunostaining) is also preferred. The postholder will also have experience in computer programming, preferably in Matlab, R or C.
The work will involve developing new fluorescence microscopy methods to understand the biophysical principles underpinning T cell activation. More specifically, we wish to develop new methods (especially image analysis algorithms) to quantify super-resolution single molecule imaging (PALM/STORM) datasets as well as Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET) data sets. These will then be applied to understanding molecular organisation at the T cell immunological synapse. The role will involve some cell culture and sample preparation (~10%), data acquisition (~30%) and the development and use of new image analysis algorithms (~60%).
For an informal discussion of the post please contact Dr Dylan Owen via email at dylan.owen@kcl.ac.uk.
The salary will be £32,277 per annum if PhD has been awarded. If you have submitted your thesis but the PhD has not yet been awarded then the salary will be £31,342 per annum, increasing to £32,277 once award has been made. You will also receive London Weighting Allowance of £2,323 London Allowance per annum.
This is a fixed term contract until 31 January 2019.
The closing date for applications is 28 June 2015.
To apply for this post, you will need to register with the Hirewire system first to download and submit the application form. Please note, should you wish to submit a CV or a short statement, you will need to copy & paste these documents after the application form as the system will only accept one document to be uploaded.
