Job Description:
Vacaturenummer: AFS-TOX- 0017
Functienaam: Assistant/Associate Professor (Tenure Track) Systems Toxicology
Leerstoelgroep/BU/(Staf)afdeling: Toxicology WU
Omvang dienstverband: 1.0 fte
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant/Associate professor in the field of Systems Toxicology to strengthen the Toxicology chair group of the department of Agrotechnology & Food Sciences at Wageningen University.
It is expected that the candidate will make strong links between Systems Toxicology, -including physiologically based modelling of kinetic and dynamic pathways and development of in vitro experimental models to study these processes-, and the research on Food Toxicology and Environmental Toxicology of the chair group. The position includes also a teaching responsibility: you will teach a number of courses in the field of Food Toxicology and Food Safety.
In collaboration with colleagues you will supervise BSc, MSc and PhD students, initiate new projects, and develop a solid and independent research line in the field of System Toxicology. You are expected to attract funding to sustain your research, and to cooperate with other relevant research groups within and outside Wageningen University. Training and coaching will be provided to support your further academic development. Information Tenure track Wageningen UR Wageningen University offers talented young scientists a challenging new career trajectory, the Tenure track. By introducing this trajectory, our aim is to attract top talent and to stimulate excellence. From the position of Assistant/Associate Professor, candidates can grow into a Professor holding a personal chair. In addition, they will be given the chance to build up their own research line. It goes without saying that candidates will be intensively supervised and coached during the trajectory. Moreover, this transparent career path can lead to a permanent employment contract.
As we will be selecting only candidates of high potential to take part in the Tenure Track trajectory, for all participating candidates, this will be a good stepping stone to a further career within Wageningen UR or elsewhere. - experience with experimental in vitro models to study systems toxicology;
- an excellent command of the English language and a willingness to travel internationally;

The organization
The Toxicology chair group’s research aims at molecular-driven mechanistic research focussing on Food Toxicology and Environmental Toxicology. On the basis of mechanistic understanding, toxicological processes related to human and environmental health are translated into risk analysis for human health and ecological processes. The Toxicology chair group actively contributes to topics such as safety evaluation of new and existing food ingredients, biocides, nanomaterials, contaminants in the food chain, the role of epigenetics in modes of toxic action, alternatives to animal testing, toxic by-product formation in water treatment, endocrine disruption, the development of biomarker techniques and bioassays for tracing contaminant effects, mode of action-based bioassays for marine biotoxins, and alternative in vitro and in silico methods for toxicological risk assessment.
We have a leading multidisciplinary research group in the field of Food and Environmental Toxicology with strong industrial collaboration, and a dynamic team of PhD students and staff.
The Agrotechnology & Food Sciences Group is part of Wageningen UR where fundamental and applied sciences complement each other. As an important European player, we carry out top-level research and work alongside authoritative partners within the international business world and government on “Healthy Food in a Biobased Society”. We play a crucial role in innovations in the market. Entrepreneurship and professionalism are what define us, and make Wageningen UR an interesting, international employer.
