Bioinformatician/Software DeveloperEMBL-EBInear Cambridge-Hinxton We are looking to recruit a Bioinformatician/Software Developer to join The Samples, Phenotypes and Ontologies Team on the BioMedBridges project (www.biomedbridges.eu) at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) located on the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.
This post involves the development of software components for the EBI’s RDF platform (http:///www.ebi.ac.uk/rdf) and the Ontology Lookup Service (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/ontology-lookup). The post holder will work in a team coding environment using agile development practices to deliver tools for semantic data integration. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the field of semantic interoperability and annotation of data for biomedicine.
The EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and it is a world-leading bioinformatics centre providing biological data to the scientific community with expertise in data storage, analysis and representation. EMBL-EBI provides freely available data from life science experiments, performs basic research in computational biology and offers an extensive user training programme, supporting researchers in academic and industry.
This is a junior post and will suit a recent graduate with a BSc/MSc in bioinformatics or computer science. You will be able demonstrate experience in programming in Java and/or Web application development and a familiarity with Javascript. This post will suit an individual with an interest in Semantic Web/Linked Open Data technologies and any prior experience with Ontologies, RDF and SPARQL is desirable but not required. Extensive work experience is not necessary for this role, though a familiarity with agile development processes and team coding is desirable.
