Job Description:
Human Longevity, Inc. Human Longevity, Inc. (HLI), is a human health information technology and health care company founded by pioneers in the fields of genomics and stem cell therapy to revolutionize human health and the practice of medicine.  Using advances in genomic sequencing, the human microbiome, metabolomics, informatics, computing, and cell therapy technologies, HLI is building the world’s most comprehensive knowledge base of human genotypes and phenotypes as a basis for a variety of opportunities to help solve aging related disease and human biological decline.  HLI will be licensing access to its Knowledgebase™ to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, academic institutions and medical centers, governments, insurers and physicians, and developing new diagnostics and therapeutics as part of their product offerings. Purpose of Job Human Longevity, Inc. is looking for a Head of Clinical Informatics who will lead a team of clinical data specialists focused on intake, organization, curation, quality assessment, and management of clinical (or phenotype) data for use in the HLI’s advanced human health database.   These data will come (with linked biologic specimens) from pharmaceutical companies, publically funded researchers at academic medical centers, clinical care settings (including HLI’s Health Hubs), population sequencing efforts, public database resources, and other sources.   These data will be combined with whole genome sequencing, microbiome, and metabolomic data to create integrated health records for use with machine learning and other analytics to create HLI’s proprietary KnowledgebaseTM.   The Head of Clinical Informatics will report to HLI’s Chief Information Officer and work closely with other HLI computer scientists focused on software development, bioinformatics, and machine learning, and HLI’s Chief Medical Officer. Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of clinical data specialists in development of strategies and ongoing operations for intake, organization, curation, quality assessment, and management of clinical (or phenotype) data
  • Represent and take responsibility for managing access to clinical (or phenotype) data with internal and external users of HLI’s data resources (e.g., HLI KnowledgebaseTM)
  • Maintain and build familiarity with advances and research related to HLI’s use of clinical (or phenotype) data including new informatics approaches, computational tools and devices/methods to collect relevant clinical (or phenotype) data useful to HLI
  • Maintain and build familiarity with existing and developing data standards, including structured vocabularies, ontologies and data models, of relevance to clinical (or phenotype) data
  • Lead HLI efforts to identify methods to obtain clinical (or phenotype) data from electronic medical records, including natural language processing methods to obtain data from free text
  • Lead HLI efforts to explore use of medical literature and non-HLI data assets to strengthen and improve HLI’s use and interpretation of clinical (or phenotype data)
  • Build strong internal relationships and alignments related to clinical (or phenotype) data
Minimum Qualifications (Must have)
  • Advanced technical degree in computer science (Masters, PhD) and/or in medicine (e.g., MD, RN) with deep experience in clinical and/or biomedical informatics
  • Demonstrated expertise and > 5 years of experience working with large-scale clinical (or phenotype) data using advanced informatics methodologies and ontologies to address cutting edge clinical, research, or industry challenges
  • Familiarity and experience working across diverse settings where clinical (or phenotype) data are collected including industry-sponsored clinical trials, publically-funded clinical research, and diverse healthcare settings
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in conduct of complex clinical informatics projects, and align internal stakeholders to support and contribute to these effort
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively, influencing decisions and outcomes, facilitating consensus
  • Ability to analyze complex technology problems and develop recommendations and solutions that are understood in business terms
  • Highly skilled at needs assessment, facilitation of project implementation, and organizational change or development
  • Perform effectively in a complex changing environment
  • Excellent knowledge of infrastructure technologies, IT operations, service management, support services and industry leading best practices
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Personal leadership, vision, persistence, energy, passion and enthusiasm
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to have)
  • MD with PhD in computer science with deep experience in clinical and/or biomedical informatics
  • Experience working in clinical genomics in industry, start-ups, or academic medical settings
  • Direct experience leading (or working on) large scale clinical (or phenotype) data projects including: large publically-funded longitudinal clinical studies (e.g., Framingham), CDC’s National Health Assessment and Nutrition Evaluation Survey (NHANES), NIH’s Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) Network, NIH’s PhenX Project, NIH’s database for Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGAP), NIH’s Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside (i2b2), the FDA-related Innnovation in Medical Evidence Development and Surveillance (IMEDS, also formerly known as Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership or OMOP), and other similar efforts
  • Working knowledge of relevant clinical data standards and coding schemes, including LOINC, SNOMED-CT, ICD, CPT, NDF-RT, RxNorm, UMLS and OBO ontologies.
  • Experience with Data integration technology and platforms such as Cortellis Data Fusion (CDF).
