Postdoctoral Fellows – Molecular and Cellular NeurobiologyUC San DiegoPsychiatryUSA-CA-La Jolla A 2-3 year postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Iakoucheva lab (http://iakouchevalab.ucsd.edu/) for research into the molecular basis of autism and schizophrenia. The goal of the research program is to achieve better understanding of the functional impact of genetic mutations on molecular and cellular neuronal pathways. This position is open to applicants with extensive laboratory experience who are able to employ cutting-edge molecular and cellular approaches to investigation of psychiatric diseases.
Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Molecular or Cellular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or related field and a solid lab experience including sound scientific practice in research, methodology development and accurate laboratory techniques. Candidate must have strong ability to design, organize, and coordinate scientific research projects as well as to supervise and train rotation students. Interest in writing independent grant applications and prior writing experience is favorable.
Preference will be given to applicants who have a strong record of research in one or more of the following areas: CRISPR/Cas genome editing, cell culture including neuronal, gene expression (RNAseq), miRNA targets, cell-based functional assays, yeast and mammalian two-hybrid approaches for protein-protein, protein-DNA and protein-RNA interactions screening. Experience with common bioinformatics methods, in particular with genome sequencing and RNAseq data interpretation is desired. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to complete a project without constant supervision, strong oral and written communication skills in English, and strong publication record. Candidates from psychiatric genetics and genomics fields will be given preference.
