Overview    

The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute seeks  Bioinformatics Engineer
 to lead the development of multiple opensource data mining and analytics
platforms for precision (or "personalized") cancer medicine.

The Bioinformatics Engineer is an exceptional candidate who has
both deep bioinformatics experience and extensive software architecture experience.
We operate at the crossroads of cancer genomics, software, and data science and are
looking for that rare individual who has experience and passion for all three.
Our platforms are focused on mining of cancer genomic data sets, understanding
resistance to targeted therapy, matching genomic profiles to clinical trials, and
identifying exceptional responders to targeted therapy. Technical and scientific
challenges for the platform include data mining and visualization of largescale
cancer genomic data sets, extracting information from natural language text and building
webbased data analytics platforms.


The Bioinformatics Engineer will be responsible for:

 Designing and architecting all new software platforms within the Knowledge

Systems and Data Science group.

Leading engineering efforts for all new software platforms.

Leading engineering efforts for mutiple open source projects, including

cbioportal.org and oncoblocks.org.

Staying abreast of new technologies and data science advances that may impact

future work within the group, and setting an overall strategy for adoption of new

technologies.

 Maintaining bestpractices and industry standards for all bioinformatics software

developed within the group.

 Representing the Knowledge Systems and Data Science Group across Dana-Faber

and with external collaborations.

Mentoring bioinformatics engineers within the group.


Required skills:
Bachelor's degree, Masters Degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science,
Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a related field.
3-5  years of bioinformatics software engineering experience, preferably in the
cancer genomics space.
Expert knowledge of Java and Spring.
Strong interest in contributing to biological research with clinical applications.
Experience in modern software development technologies, including distributed
versioning systems, continuous integration, and Agile programming practices.
Data science expertise, including statistical analysis and data mining
