Job overview: The Department seeks to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Building Surveying to help develop and contribute to teaching, research and enterprise within the Department. The principal requirement of the role will be to ensure the development of teaching, research and / or knowledge exchange activities within the Department and specifically within the domain of our real estate programmes.
Suitable applicants for this post will have knowledge of developments in the construction industry and will be able to offer a specialism in one or more of building pathology, adaptation / refurbishment and conservation. Experience of student project supervision and the ability to teach advanced practical elements (such as surveying) would also be advantageous.
In addition to delivering effective teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level, the post holder at H grade will be expected to take on module leadership including managing their teaching team(s).
The Department has a growing number of partners delivering their modules and programmes in the UK and overseas and the successful applicants may therefore also need to be able to support academic relationships with external partners delivering their module(s) in the UK and overseas. The successful applicants will be able to engage with students from diverse backgrounds, including overseas students, and in diverse study modes e.g. face to face, e-learning, full time, part time and short block courses.
The precise blend of teaching/research/academic management is not being specified but it is important to note that at this level of appointment the role holder is expected to make a significant contribution to teaching and research / knowledge exchange / business to business activities of the Department and Faculty. An element of the Department’s strategy for the future is the embracing and embedding of technology-enhanced provision across its range of activities and we would be particularly interested to hear from individuals with experience in this area.
