Intrexon has a unique opportunity for a talented (Senior) Bioinformatics Scientist (level based on candidate). We are looking for a (Senior) Bioinformatics Scientist with Next Generation Sequencing - NGS Data Analysis experience who will develop complex analysis pipelines in areas such as genome assembly, RNA-seq and expression analysis, metabolomics, proteomics, and variant analysis. The work will span areas that include microbial and yeast across human health and agricultural biotechnology impacting many compelling areas of our business. This individual will help connect bench scientists with existing internal systems by developing novel interfaces, analyses, and methods. Candidates must have experience developing robust software and dealing with deployment, versioning, and system maintenance issues. There will be opportunity to innovate with both data processing infrastructure and analytic method development. Ability to interpret the data into specific, actionable tasks, and tie results back to biological outcomes and literature. Strong foundational biological principles is necessary, and background in microbial physiology and/or yeast genomics is strongly desired. Knowledge in other areas such as human health, genome editing, and agricultural biotechnology ideal.
Description:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate to integrate sequencing and other omics analyses with existing database applications, sample handling workflow, and analysis infrastructure.
- Analyze and interpret resulting omics data, relevant literature, associated data such as fermentation results, and communicate results clearly to biologists. Help design new experiments as needed
- Develop analysis pipelines for genomic and RNA-Seq data from Next-Generation Sequencing experiments.
- Assist in plasmid validation and other omics analysis tasks.
- Annotate and analyze genomes and generate biological hypotheses.
- Develop and/or adopt omics integration and machine learning techniques
- PhD, MS or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Molecular Biology or a related discipline.
- Strong interdisciplinary background and ability to interact collaboratively with bench scientists
- Experience in pipeline development and one or more of: genome assembly, rna-seq analysis, variant analysis, metabolomics, proteomics.
- Familiarity with LIMS, for example Illumina basespace and Clarity LIMS, and setting up workflows and analyzes within these frameworks, a big plus.
- Strong python software development skills.
- Experience with REST APIs a plus.
- Knowledge of databases (SQL, noSQL, graph etc.) and database design needed, Oracle DB experience desired.
- Experience in high-throughput data analysis, visualization (ActivityBase, Spotfire, Tableau, etc.) and interpretation.
- Experience with Javascript, CSS and at least one web development framework highly desired
- Algorithm development experience, basic knowledge of statistics required.
- Advanced experience with machine learning, statistical method development
, etcmuch appreciated. - Functional knowledge of biological principles including gene structure, gene regulation, and functional annotation.
- Knowledge of CRISPR, TALEN, and other modern genome editing technologies is a plus.
