Job Description:
Natera is currently seeking a Research Scientist/Senior Scientist to lead the development of novel NGS-based assays for cancer detection and analysis.
Responsibilities:
Lead the development of new target enrichment strategies based on Natera’s massively multiplex PCR technology
Create experimental plans and reports, document scientific interpretations and communicate results to team members and upper management
Analyze and critically summarize obtained data, draw scientifically correct conclusions and propose solutions
Support product development, verification, validation and launch
Plan and execute complex laboratory experiments with clear understanding of objectives and deliverables
Perform and coordinate the analysis of NGS experiments by working with Statistics and Bioinformatics teams
Perform basic data analysis (R, JMP, Excel)
Communicate with Clinical and Process Development groups during product development, validation and launch
Document research progress under the Quality Systems Regulations
Participate and present findings at scientific conferences
Publish scientifically relevant data in peer reviewed journals
Participate in the development of patent applications
Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in molecular biology or a related field and 3-6 years molecular biology laboratory experience
Minimum 2 years of applied research experience in industry (molecular diagnostics experience is highly preferred)
Hands-on experience with library preparation workflows for major NGS platforms
Hands-on experience with targeted enrichment strategies for NGS highly desirable
Expert knowledge of PCR, multiplex PCR, digital PCR and qPCR techniques is required
Expert knowledge of assay development and optimization strategies
Very strong analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrated success in applying independent scientific judgment in experimental design and analysis
Hands-on experience with library preparation workflows for major NGS platforms
Hands-on experience with targeted enrichment strategies for NGS highly desirable
Expert knowledge of PCR, multiplex PCR, digital PCR and qPCR techniques is required
Expert knowledge of assay development and optimization strategies
Very strong analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrated success in applying independent scientific judgment in experimental design and analysis
Proven success in managing collaborative and individual projects, skilled at writing clear SOPs and reports
Proven interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; excellent time management skills
Database and programming experience a plus
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office is required
