Assistant ProfessorAUGUSTANA UNIVERSITYBiology DepartmentUSA-SD-Sioux Falls AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY, a selective, private, liberal arts institution in Sioux Falls, SD invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Natural Sciences beginning September 2016. We seek a computational biologist that can integrate undergraduate education with research in cell systems biology and/or modeling as part of multi-intuitional research center. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is required; postdoctoral experience is preferred.

TEACHING EXPECTATIONS: The successful applicant will be able to teach introductory computer science classes (which include topics such as software engineering, computer architecture, database systems, and programming languages), an upper level class in computational biology related to the candidate’s expertise, have a working knowledge of programming and databases, and use these tools to solve biologically-oriented problems and questions.

RESEARCH EXPECTATIONS: While teaching is a major component of the position, productive research involving undergraduates is expected and is a long-standing tradition in the university. The position is partly funded by the National Science Foundation, and will include teaching release time in the first three years of the position to allow the candidate time to connect their research to the emerging statewide Biochemical Spatiotemporal NeTwork Resource (BioSNTR - for more information, see http://www.sdepscor.org/biosntr/). The university is situated in an area experiencing rapid growth in biomedical, biotech, agricultural, and environmental research, offering collaboration opportunities in various research areas (for more information go to http://www.augie.edu/academics/biology). The ability to work with other faculty within Augustana, BioSNTR, and regional organizations and businesses to expand computational curricular and research opportunities will be essential in this position.

SALARY: Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications; excellent fringe benefits are included. A competitive research startup via BioSNTR funding will be provided, in addition to access to a wide variety of newly acquired departmental research equipment.
