Bioinformatics Programmer Analyst 3

Job Description:
Position Summary The Bioinformatics group seeks a talented and motivated individual to provide advanced analytical and software support for product research and development efforts. The successful candidate will work closely with Affymetrix scientists on the development of new products. Duties will include development of novel data analysis approaches, as well as bioinformatics programming and analysis activities in support of product development. Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Data mining in large internal and external databases
• Data analysis of complex datasets from our internal R&D labs as well as customer data.
• Integrating external data into internal infrastructure
• Implementation of algorithms, including prototypes for commercial software development
• Develops new methods for resolving problems/issues
• Creates/maintains software tools and methods
• Analyzing targeted next-generation sequencing data
• Responds to internal and external inquiries
• Complies with company quality management systems, policies and procedures
• Provides mentorship, if applicable

Job Requirements

• Masters or PhD in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science, Biology or Genetics, with a strong background in applied genomic data analysis
• Experience in the following areas:
• Genome annotation and public genomics/genetics databases
• Analysis of next-generation sequencing data
• Working with big data
• Familiarity with Cancer genomics desired but not required
• Advanced programming skills in
• Scripting language such as Perl or Python
• R, Matlab or SAS
• One of C, C++, or Java highly desired
• Experience with relational databases and SQL
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
