Job Description:
Loyola University Chicago (LUC), College of Arts and Sciences, Departments of Biology and Computer Science, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Computational Biology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August, 2015. This position – a joint appointment between the two departments – will also support a growing Bioinformatics Interdisciplinary Major. For an overview of the departments visit www.luc.edu/biology, www.luc.edu/cs, and www.luc.edu/bioinformatics. Candidates must have a Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience, and will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally-funded research program involving undergraduates and MS students. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in genomics and the use of big data analytics. Teaching responsibilities will be split between the Biology and Computer Science Departments, and include courses which contribute to the Bioinformatics Program curriculum.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Bioinformatics, Genetics and Genomics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related fields, and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at all levels. Experience working or conducting research in the area of next-generation sequencing is desirable. Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in research and teaching, distinguished scholarship, grant-funded research, and student mentorship.
