Job Description: | OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute. This person will be responsible for obtaining sequencing and genotyping data sets from various databases and delivering and sharing data internally and externally to collaborators and databases. This person will also be responsible for curating and managing internally and externally derived data sets, as well as performing basic analysis of these data sets. This person will contribute to a lively team and wider community of computational biologists, geneticists, research scientists and project managers dedicated to discovering and understanding the complexities of psychiatric disease. The Stanley Center and the Broad Institute provide a vibrant research environment with close links to MIT, Harvard and the Harvard-affiliated hospitals across Boston. Being a member of our team will provide the opportunity for your contributions to be utilized and recognized across the vast global network of researchers in the fields of genomics and psychiatric disease research. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES • Obtain sequencing and genotyping data sets from databases such as dbGaP. • Generate and implement data storage and retrieval systems for genome analyses. • Data delivery and sharing internally and externally to collaborators and databases. • Curation and management of internally and externally derived data sets. • Perform basic analysis of these data sets using commonly available software tools within the Stanley Center team. |
Requirements: | • Bachelor’s degree in biology, genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science or related fields. • 2+ years of related experience. • Good communication and interpersonal skills. • Knowledge of web development, and working in a unix environment. • Familiarity with genomic data, tools and databases. • Some basic programming skills and some knowledge of either R, Matlab, python and/or Perl. • Ability to work effectively in a team environment. • Must be flexible and able to respond to shifting priorities in a dynamic setting.
