Job Description:
The Position Roche Sequencing is seeking a talented computer scientist to develop next-generation sequencing (NGS) algorithms for long read platforms and develop bioinformatics analysis pipelines that will be used in IVDs. This will enable the approval of NGS IVDs to impact patients through personalized medicine. You should enjoy working on a team and have a strong desire to pursue creative solutions to challenging problems in an interdisciplinary and fast paced startup-like environment. Responsibilities -Work proactively with external and internal software partners to understand existing algorithms. -Modify or develop novel secondary (e.g. assemblers and aligners) and tertiary bioinformatics algorithms for cutting edge NGS platforms, across a range of applications. -Design algorithms that are efficient and leverage multicore compute resources. -Profile and benchmark existing and new algorithms. -Work with other bioinformatics team members to develop test cases for algorithms. Skills & Experience -Possess a Ph.D. in computer science, bioinformatics, physics or related quantitative discipline. -Experience in developing novel algorithms for analyzing NGS data (experience with long reads is a plus). -Comfortable understanding code in a variety of languages including C++, C#, and Java (experience with Python and R a plus). -Proficient writing and testing code in C or C++. -Interest in building bioinformatics pipelines or workflows. -Background in machine learning and solid understanding of statistics is a plus, but not required. -Desire to learn about types of data generated by various NGS platforms including innovative, cutting edge platforms. -Passionate about applying your skills in a diagnostic setting to advance personalized medicine and helping patients in the areas of human genetics and immunology.
