Job Description:
We are seeking a highly talented and motivated bioinformatics scientist to take a key role in statistical analysis of genomics and next generation sequencing data to support multiple therapeutic areas (oncology, immunology, liver diseases, etc.) from target identification to biomarker discovery. As a member of the Research Bioinformatics team, this individual will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment and will be responsible for developing and employing rigorous statistical modeling and bioinformatics methods, interpreting and integrating large scale datasets to enable research biology objectives Essential Duties and Job Functions: • Develop and implement, in collaboration with research scientists, statistical analysis of microarray and next generation sequencing data (e.g. RNA-seq, exome-seq, chip-seq and whole genome sequencing) • Apply and create statistical and computational tools for analysis of large genomic and pharmacogenomics data sets from publicly available, commercial, or proprietary genomic databases to enable target identification/assessment, understanding of MOA, disease subtype, etc. • Design and apply bioinformatics algorithms, unsupervised and supervised methods, univariate and multivariate regression analyses, etc. to identify candidates for drug targets and/or biomarkers Knowledge, Experience and Skills: • A PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, computer science, or a related field, or MS with extensive relevant working experience • Proficient in statistical and scripting programming language, such as R, Perl, Python, etc. • Hands on experience with linux systems and high performance parallel computing environment • Expertise in developing algorithms and applications for pattern recognition, machine learning, data mining and visualization of large scale genomic data (e.g. RNASeq, DNASeq, chipSeq, microarrays, etc) • Hands-on experience analyzing, interpreting, and integrating large-scale biological datasets, such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, high throughput screening, etc. • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with research scientists • Excellent oral/written communication skills • Track records of peer-reviewed publications are highly desired As an equal opportunity employer, Gilead Sciences Inc. is committed to a diverse workforce.
