Job Description:
Job Summary A postdoctoral research fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jacob Kitzman in the Department of Human Genetics and Department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics. Our group develops new genomics technologies to detect and study the functional impacts of genetic variation upon traits in health and disease. The focus of this position will be to apply high-throughput approaches such as deep mutational scanning to study several genes contributing to inherited cancer syndromes. Responsibilities The successful candidate will establish cell culture based functional assays for several cancer genes, adopting and improving approaches developed in our lab and elsewhere. The candidate will be expected to gain familiarity with the primary literature in areas relevant fields including DNA repair, cancer genomics, and sequencing technology. Finally, the applicant will be expected to contribute to supervision of students and technicians to work collaboratively on this and related projects. Required Qualifications This position requires a highly motivated, organized individual with a demonstrated track record of innovation and independent direction. Applicant must hold a Ph.D. in a genomics-related field such as Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Bioinformatics. Extensive experience in standard molecular biology, cloning techniques, and tissue culture techniques is required. Some experience with biological data analysis tools and general bio-computing skills (e.g., Linux, python, R) is required. Desired Qualifications Prior experience with genome editing (e.g., using CRISPR/Cas or TALEN technologies) and massively parallel sequencing (e.g., Illumina) is desirable.
