Job Description:
Salary: Grade 7: Salary in the range £30,434 - £34,233 p.a. (pay award pending) Applications are invited for a post as a Career Development Fellow in Bioinformatics to join researchers working in the Oxford Parkinson’s Disease Centre, working to understand the neurobiology of Parkinson’s disease. You will analyse expression profiles generated from iPSC lines to identify and characterise the perturbed molecular networks underlying PD and related neurodegenerative disorders. The postholder will guide studies both to explore and treat cellular models of neurodegeneration. You will be encouraged to explore the links between the model molecular perturbations and the wealth of patient genomic and phenotypic data available within the OPDC and beyond. You will perform computational analyses for the research project and keep abreast of the literature relating to iPSC Omics and related methodologies, and the disorders relevant to their particular projects. You will report on results and experiments, contribute to group meetings and disseminate research results through the publication of peer-reviewed papers and presentations at scientific meetings. The successful applicant will have, or be near completion of, a PhD/DPhil in biology, medical biology, informatics or a field relevant to computational genomics, and a demonstrable, strong interest in genomic research. You will be able to script/program in a Unix/Linux environment and skilled in the application of statistical approaches to biological problems. Experience of transcriptomics and genetics/genomics and biomedical experience are desirable. You will be based in the Oxford Centre for Gene Function in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics at the University of Oxford. The position is funded by the Monument Discovery Award from Parkinson’s UK for a fixed-term of up to 3 years. An early start to this post is essential. The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 18 January 2016. Interviews likely to be held on 27 January 2016.
