Position Description: The Department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics (DCMB) invites applications from outstanding candidates for a junior level research track faculty position. This is an exciting opportunity to jumpstart your career with high impact research projects and the potential to advance to an independent principal investigator at the University of Michigan. The position will involve integrative analyses of data from various high-throughput molecular approaches (epigenomics, regulomics, transcriptomics, and genomics) with a focus on projects related to cancer and environmental health, and will be supervised by Dr. Maureen Sartor. Specific research topics and balance between analysis and methods/tool development will be determined based on the expertise and interests of the applicant. You will have a lead role in Dr. Sartor’s laboratory, working closely with her bioinformatics and biostatistics graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and bioinformatics software developer. The position will benefit from a mentoring committee, and support from an outstanding team of bioinformaticians, the UM Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Dr. Sartor’s collaborators in the Medical School and School of Public Health.
Current projects range from a new epigenomics-related Transformative R01 funded by NIEHS to multiple NCI-funded projects studying molecular profiles of head and neck cancers to developing software tools for functional enrichment testing and analysis of genome-wide DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation data. Many opportunities for publications as part of our team science efforts exist. Depending on the applicant, entry into the Research Investigator or Research Assistant Professor position will be considered.
The University of Michigan Medical School provides an outstanding environment for cutting-edge research and premiere opportunities for professional development. DCMB currently has 18 faculty members and 13 joint faculty, and our Bioinformatics Graduate Program attracts top national and international students.

Proficiency in one or more programming languages (python, R etc) and git, and have experience working with high-throughput molecular data (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, DNA methylation), preferably in the fields of cancer and/or environmental health. Successful applicants will also demonstrate excellent communication skills and a strong desire to succeed as an independent researcher.
Salary/Benefits: Salary will be determined based on years of experience and qualifications. The position includes excellent benefits offered to all faculty at the University of Michigan (benefits.umich.edu).
Application: Interested applicants should send a letter of interest along with their curriculum vitae and Research Statement to Dr. Maureen Sartor (sartorma@umich.edu).
