Job Description:
The Departments of Biomedical Informatics and Systems Biology at Columbia University are seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Programmer Analyst to join Dr. Raul Rabadan's lab. The successful applicant will take part in a cutting-edge project on untangling the molecular biology of cancer. The overarching approach is to generate and analyze deep whole exome and whole genome from both public and private data sets. The candidate will work in a highly multidisciplinary environment and will support and interface the analysis of several projects from different lab members.
Available position is grant-funded.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Bachelor's degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or similar with demonstrable computational and software development skills, plus three years of related experience.
Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Experience in processing and analysis of large genomics data sets (WGS, WES, RNA-seq, or ChIP-seq) in bioinformatics/molecular biology setting; Demonstrated ability to produce well designed, documented code in some of Python, Perl, or similar; Proficiency in using build, test, version control, and documentation tools is a plus; Proficiency working in a Linux environment and with Unix shell scripting; Proficiency with the SGE cluster environment; Extremely good work ethic; Ability to multitask; work in team and in multidisciplinary environment.

Essential Functions
Prototype, develops, improve, maintain, and apply tools and pipelines for the management and analysis for large amounts of new generation sequencing data (NGS).
Design, develop, and maintain databases of genetic variants identified through NGS in large collections of the individuals.
Develop novel web-based data visualization and user interfaces strategies for enabling effective use of the large data sets of sequence data and genetic variants.
