Calysta, Inc. in Menlo Park, CA is seeking a bioinformatics scientist. The successful candidate will have experience with developing metabolic models, data analysis, integration of data from different studies (metabolomics, genomics, transcriptomics, etc.), statistical analysis, database development and management, and be comfortable working independently and as a member of a fast paced cross functional team. Position Summary: This is a full-time position which will require independent work, as well as integration with scientists in the strain engineering, fermentation and analytical groups. Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Comparison and analysis of sequencing and biochemical data.
- Build and refine metabolic model to represent core central metabolism and product production in engineered methanotrophic strains.
- Develop or acquire and evaluate software solutions to manage and analyze large data sets and reduce to actionable hypotheses.
- Develop or acquire and evaluate computational tools to recommend further strain improvement strategies.
- Identification and in silico evaluation of novel biosynthetic pathways (energetics, theoretical yield, etc.)
Desired Experience:
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and integrate experimental data into metabolic models.
- Working knowledge of principles and techniques utilized in metabolic/strain engineering and fermentative production.
- Experience with statistical models for biological data analysis
- Fluency in at least one programming/scripting language (e.g, Python).
- Author or co-author of SOPs, patent applications, invention disclosures, internal reports, and presentations.
- Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related field.
- 2+ years related industry experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work well in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Must be an independent self-starter.
- Strong ability to communicate, both written and verbally.
