Job Description:

Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch's pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer with minimal side effects. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation's first and largest cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women's Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. Careers Start Here.

A postdoctoral position is available in the Hsieh lab at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The core focus of the Hsieh lab is to interrogate the mechanisms by aberrant changes at the interface between mRNA and the translation apparatus governs cancer cell behavior at a molecular, cellular, and organismal level (Hsieh et al. Cancer Cell 2010, Hsieh et al. Nature 2012, Hsieh et al. Science Signaling 2015). For this position, the applicant will use primary cell culture methods, whole transcriptome ribosome profiling, and various cellular and molecular assays to study the structure-function relationship between mRNA and the translation machinery in human cancer. Applicants should be interested in the application of basic science research towards clinically intractable problems faced by cancer patients and will be expected to be scientifically intrepid.

Essential Skills and Requirements: Candidates should be highly motivated with a recent Ph.D. and/or M.D. and have a strong background in RNA biology. Applicants with a bioinformatics background are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Please apply with a letter summarizing previous work experience, future research interests, and contact information for three professional references.

If interested, please apply online via the Apply through website button.
