The Principal Scientist, Biomarker Signatures will be a member of the Neuroscience Biomarkers team, and will be responsible for assessing and validating new biomarker technologies related to the Mood Disorder and Alzheimer’s Disease areas.
The position will focus on identifying and validating biomarker signatures aimed at diagnosis & staging, stratification, therapy response and relapse prediction / measurement, based on imaging (e.g. magnetic resonance techniques), composite biomarkers, “omics” - phenotype associations, neuro-functional measurements.
The Principal Scientist, Biomarker Signatures will provide input and results to Mood and AD biomarker experts in therapeutic discovery, clinical translation and clinical development.
S/he will work with internal and external collaborators/partners/CROs, to develop and validate MRI and other biomarker signatures for mood disorders and AD. S/he will interface internally with Project and Bioinformatics Scientists and Laboratory Personnel, and interact outside of the immediate group with Scientists in Neuroscience Discovery, Integrative Solutions, Experimental Medicine and Clinical Development, RA/QA, Safety, Finance, Purchasing, and Contracting. S/he will interface externally with Life science and instrument vendors, academic researchers, collaborators, and KOL’s.
The Principal Scientist, Biomarker Signatures will work in a results-oriented environment with the goal of identifying and validating biomarker signatures in connection with therapeutic discovery projects, aimed toward clinical translation and beyond.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in pharmacology/biology with post-doctoral experience. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required, with a minimum of 3 years in a pharmaceutical industry setting. The successful candidate will have on-the-job experience with clinical imaging (e.g. MRI techniques), biomarker signatures, establishing & validating their link to phenotypes, and application in drug discovery, translation and clinical development in NS. Strong communication skills are required. Strong collaboration and influencing skills are required. The position is located in La Jolla, CA and may require <20% travel.
