Job Description:
The Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences and the School of Computing at Queen’s University invite applications for a Queen’s National Scholar (QNS) position in the area of Bioinformatics (systems biology, pharmacogenomics and large-scale biological data analytics) from outstanding scientists and educators with passion, energy, and a strong vision for innovative transdisciplinary research and education. This is a tenure-track or tenured appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with a preferred starting date of July 1, 2015, subject to budgetary approval. The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment in the two academic units. Position Overview
Candidates must hold a PhD or MD/PhD (or equivalent). The main criterion for selection in the field of Bioinformatics is demonstrated academic and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will be an emerging leader in Bioinformatics and will be expected to establish an externally funded world-class research program and have a distinguished track record of discovery and innovation. In addition, the candidate will display strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, be involved in developing and delivering educational programs and have an ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the programs of the two academic units. The successful candidate will also be expected to make substantive contributions through service to the two academic units, to their parent Faculties, to the University, and/or the broader community. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate is expected to build collaborative links between researchers in the School of Computing, the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences, clinician scientists in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and with scholars in other disciplines.
Proximity and availability of the High Performance Computing Virtual Laboratory (HPCVL), a cluster of computer systems and storage resources shared by five universities and three colleges, should facilitate development of a strong bioinformatics program. Researchers also have opportunities for collaboration with external organizations (e.g. OCBN, Indoc Research ) associated with Queen’s which deploy bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics platforms to support research teams with an interest in developing clinical tools for early diagnosis of disease, assessing prognosis and progression, and for predicting therapeutic response.
