Job Description:
We seek an outstanding candidate for the position of Post-doctoral researcher in the lab of Dr. Maria Vartiainen (http://www.biocenter.helsinki.fi/bi/vartiainen/). Our lab is is studying the role of actin and actin-binding proteins in the cell nucleus, especially in the context of regulating gene expression (see for example Vartiainen et al. 2007 Science; Dopie et al. 2012 PNAS and for review Grosse and Vartiainen 2013, Nat Rev Mol Cell Biol).
The aim of the post-doctoral project is to dissect the molecular mechanism by which actin regulates nuclear organization and gene expression. The main emphasis will be on genomic methods (ChIP-seq, RNA-seq), which will be complemented with other molecular biology techniques and advanced microscopy methods.
Salary will be based on the University salary scheme for teaching and research personnel, and composed of both task related and personal performance components. Starting date is negotiable, and the appointment is initially for two years.
Applications as one pdf file, including a short CV and contact information for at least two references, should be sent by email. Applications are reviewed as they are received.
Desired skills and experience
We are looking for enthusiastic and highly-motivated candidates with a PhD in relevant fields and with an interest in nuclear cell biology and gene expression; previous experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques, such as chromatin immunoprecipitation would be an advantage.
About the employer
The Institute of Biotechnology is a leading European research institute within the University of Helsinki with a mission to increase knowledge in cross‐disciplinary biology and biotechnology. The Institute has state‐of-the‐art facilities in imaging, model organisms, proteomics, genomics, crystallography and NMR. The Vartiainen-lab is funded by ERC Starting grant, Academy of Finland, Sigrid Juselius and Finnish Cancer foundations and Biocentrum Helsinki.
