Job Description:
Pacific Biosciences is looking for a scientist to help improve the performance of its sequencing consumables. The successful candidate will work within a highly multidisciplinary R&D environment to develop data analysis methods and tools for extracting content from large single molecule sequencing data sets with the overall goal of improving the accuracy and readlength of mutant/engineered DNA/RNA polymerases and fluorescently labeled nucleotide analogs. Other areas of focus will be to improve nucleic acid sample preparation and subsequent sequencing performance as it pertains to polymerase processivity, DNA/RNA integrity, and secondary structure. Ideally, the candidate will have a strong background in data analysis techniques applied to challenging biophysical questions. A good working knowledge of biochemistry and/or bioinformatics is highly desirable.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant industry experience or a Ph.D. in Data Science, Biophysics, Bioinformatics or Biochemistry
• Experience with the development and application of R, Matlab, Python or other code to solve challenging physical problems
• Ability to communicate at a high level in an interdisciplinary environment with colleagues in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, physics, and bioinformatics
• Familiar with quantitative in vitro assay design and interpretation
• Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work within a team and thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Some knowledge of the kinetic and thermodynamic properties of proteins and nucleic acids is a plus
• All levels of relevant experience will be considered.
