Postdoctoral Scholarship in GenomicsJackson LaboratoryGenomic MedicineUnited States-Connecticut-Farmington Fellows will be joining the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Connecticut, which is a new institute dedicated to employ genomics to improve human health in a collaborative effort between the Jackson Laboratory (based in Bar Harbor, ME) and the state of Connecticut. The Jackson Laboratory, established in 1929 in Bar Harbor, ME, is a non-profit independent research institution with a proud history of innovative biomedical research. The laboratory is driving progress in the new era of genomic medicine with the development of its new institute, Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, as part of a $1.1 billion new venture. The new institute is based in Farmington, CT in the Hartford metropolitan area and provides a unique environment for inter-disciplinary and multi-cultural interactions. Hartford is a lively metropolitan area and is within a two-hour drive to both Boston and New York City. The successful candidates are required to live and work in Connecticut with potential visits and training opportunities at the Bar Harbor, Maine campus.
The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington,CT is seeking a post-doc level computational scientist in Genomics to join Ucar Lab. The position offers the opportunity to make leading contributions to cutting edge research in disease biology and translational research in collaboration with other Jackson Laboratory faculty. Cross campus and industry collaborations are encouraged.
The ideal candidate will:
Have a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Math/Physics, Statistical Genetics, Computer Science
Have a proven track record and enthusiasm for working in a dynamic high performance research team environment;
Demonstrate the aptitude and capacity for leading statistical genetics and biostatistics effort at the Computational Sciences and its collaborators.
Strong experience and publication record in Biostatistics and Statistical Genetics esp. in the field of clinical trials
Be creative contributors eager to learn new technologies and science
Required Skills
Expertise in Statistics/Biostatistics
Experience in High Throughput Sequence (HTS) data analysis, microarray data analysis, experimental design, data integration, algorithm development, development of sequence analysis tools (bioinformatics programming), evaluation of analytical tools and technology, and delivering training to the research community.
Experience in statistical packages (e.g. R/SAS) and other commonly used software packages such as DAVID and IPA.
Experience in developing computational algorithms and systems to support genetics and genomics research.
Excellent communication skills including skills necessary to present at the conferences and workshops, write study designs and analytical methods.
The successful candidate will have PhD degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Math/Physics, Statistical Genetics, Computer Science. The candidates with proven track record of “omics” data analysis, independent collaborative work and leading contributions to a biological discipline would be preferred.
