Job Description:
DNAnexus is looking for a strong user experience designer who is driven to understand our customers and create great product experiences. The ideal candidate has substantial experience designing UX for productivity software using modern Web technologies, will enjoy being immersed in the rapidly evolving cloud--based genomic science domain, and prefers to contribute to a meaningful purpose in their career.

Our platform enables an ecosystem of scientists and medical practitioners to process massive scale genomic data, for the understanding and treatment of biological conditions at a molecular level. Our team is chartered to design customer centered solutions for large scale datasets across diverse markets, including collaborative research consortia. We’re still a small team at an early stage in this exciting field!

Responsibilities

- Design appropriate UX solutions that solve for multiple criteria including user, business and technology perspectives. Take ownership and direction.
- Create practical UX deliverables including system maps, task flows, wireframes, behaviors, states, system primitives and design standards, among others.
- Deliver detailed UX design specifications, working closely with the engineering team. Collaborate and compromise as needed for practical implementation needs.
- Write Help System content-- -- contextual tips to deep dives. Tech writing experience desirable.
- Gather UX requirements internally and externally. Help define product features with great attention to detail in a dynamic and rapid delivery agile environment.
- Run Usability Tests to assess product satisfaction and areas for improvement.
- Conduct User Research and analysis to understand users, tasks, contexts and unmet needs. Maintain an awareness of relevant market landscapes.

Requirements

- Highly skilled in interaction design. Mastery of methods and a refined design sensibility. User research experience. Proficiency critiquing and manipulating visual design elements in an existing design language. Visual design creation skills are a bonus.
- Ability to work well with software engineers and technical subject matter.
- Familiarity with the software development and release process. Experience designing and shipping Web based productivity apps as a member of a product development/ engineering team. Experienced and comfortable designing multiple simultaneous projects quickly and collaboratively within an agile process.
- Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills. Self--motivated, proactive, creative, confident, open-minded, humble, and pleasant to be around.
- Critical thinking strength, analytical, orientation to structure and repeatable systems, tenacious attention to detail.
- Relevant experience with enterprise and productivity software is required, as well as proficiency learning complex domains and new vocabulary quickly. Experience with software development environments and IT software desirable. Related domain knowledge in bioinformatics, biology, medicine, pharma, is a strong plus
- Strong grasp of modern Web UX: Familiarity with HTML/CSS/JavaScript and frameworks such as Bootstrap or jQuery. Ability to code html/css is a bonus, but not required.
- Solid knowledge of relevant software tools including Omnigraffle, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop/Illustrator/Fireworks/InDesign), Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and the ability to adopt new tools as needed.
- Minimum of a BA/BS in a related discipline and 5 years relevant work experience, although we welcome very senior designers who are a good fit!
