Job Description We are looking for an experienced bioinformatician to provide leadership for the core CTTV project involved in a large-scale biological data analysis and integration for target validity. You will join the CTTV team developing the data processing and database infrastructure to provide the core deliverable of the centre, a genome-wide database of target validity. Your responsibilities will involve day to day management of the core database project that generates the CTTV target validation platform, setting priorities in line with agreed strategy and ensuring stability and reproducibility of production system. We anticipate that there will also be opportunities for exploratory data analysis, and hands on development including involvement with data integration pipelines from various EBI and external web services. The Centre for Therapeutic Target Validation (CTTV) is a recently established public-private initiative between EMBL-EBI, GlaxoSmithKline and the Sanger Institute, to generate and integrate evidence on the validity of biological targets for drug development. The core CTTV operations are based at the EMBL-EBI. EMBL-EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and is located on the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK. We are a world-leading bioinformatics centre providing biological data to the scientific community with expertise in data storage, analysis and representation. We provide a dynamic, international working environment and have close ties with both the University of Cambridge and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. Qualifications and Experience A PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, or related filed is required, as is experience in bioinformatics, database technologies and genome-wide biological data analysis. You will have a proven track record of working on a large-scale biological data analysis or software engineering project and will understand the challenges posed by such collaborative project, including flexibility, tight deadlines and use of state of the art bioinformatics approaches. Experience in Python is necessary while experience with NoSQL database, JavaScript and XML and the use of ontologies is desirable. Applicants should have the ability to work in a highly-collaborative Agile team, interfacing with database and web developer and UX designers. Previous experience in a leadership role is desirable, or demonstrable leadership potential.
