Post-Doctoral Fellow (Ref. code: 420216(a))
CING has been awarded a Horizon 2020 grant of ~2.5 million Euros for the establishment of the Bioinformatics ERA Chair at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (BIORISE project, Grant Agreement Number: 669026). This will be the first Bioinformatics Chair to be developed in Cyprus. One of the objectives of the BIORISE project is to establish a core Bioinformatics Group at the CING, aiming at the increase and improvement of the research and innovation performance of the Institute as well as the education and training of the next generation of scientists.
THE POSITION
The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics is looking for a Post-Doctoral Fellow for its newly established Bioinformatics Group. The successful candidates will be accountable to the Bioinformatics ERA Chair Holder (BECH) and will work in close collaboration with other CING staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will work on research projects, prepare research grants and contribute to the supervision and teaching at the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine. The positions are for a period of 24 months with a possibility of extension for another 24 months based on performance/progress evaluation.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
PhD degree in the fields of Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computational Biology or Medical Informatics.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
• Previous experience in developing biomedical informatics web tools and databases.
• Previous experience in Next Generation Sequencing and/or other Omics data analysis.
• Very good programming skills (preferably in R and/or Matlab and/or Python and/or Perl and/or Java and/or PHP/mySQL).
• Previous bioinformatics experience/participation in funded research projects will be considered an advantage.
