Senior Research Associate in Statistics / Epigenetic Epidemiology School of Social and Community Medicine Salary: £35,609 – £40,082 per annum Open ended contract staff Full-time Job number: ACAD101911 We are seeking a postdoctoral senior research associate in statistics/epigenetic epidemiology (with excellent statistical skills) to develop multilevel and mixture models for epigenetic change. The post is full time and will be based in the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit within the School of Social and Community Medicine, University of Bristol. The successful applicant will be engaged in the evaluation and development of methods for analyzing epigenetic data and their change over time. Work will involve simulation of DNA methylation data, evaluation of current methods, further development of multilevel/mixture methods and testing using simulated data, and application to several real examples (using data from the ALSPAC study). The successful candidate will work as part of a larger team and make a major contribution to the interpretation and publication of results. The successful applicant will have a PhD (or equivalent research experience) in medical/applied statistics or a related quantitative discipline and a track record of research published in high impact journals. Experience analysing epigenetic or genetic data is desirable. Skills in computing and bioinformatics, as well as the handling of large-scale data sets, and an ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment would be an advantage. This post provides a valuable opportunity to gain skills in statistical methods and their application to epigenetics, including longitudinal modelling. There will also be the opportunity to collaborate with investigators at the European Bioinformatics Institute in Cambridge. Opportunities for continued training and development are available through short courses run by the School and through the University of Bristol’s staff development programme.
