Job Description:
The Penn Institute for Biomedical Informatics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Full, Associate, and/or Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure clinician-educator track. Responsibilities include promoting research using clinical data and information systems spanning across Penn Medicine. Applicants must have an Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree.
The successful candidate will serve as the Chief Research Information Officer (CRIO) of the Penn Institute for Biomedical Informatics (IBI - upibi.org). This is a senior leadership position, responsible directing a translational clinical research informatics core facility, identifying and leading innovations in research IT and research informatics, leading clinical research informatics educational activities including teaching a graduate course in clinical research informatics, participating in data governance initiatives, and representing Penn Medicine in the regional and national clinical research informatics community.
The IBI is enabled by a recent multi-million dollar gift to expand faculty expertise, build computational infrastructure, and strengthen educational opportunities across the spectrum of biomedical informatics. The IBI will integrate informatics disciplines including bioinformatics, translational bioinformatics, clinical informatics, clinical research informatics, consumer health informatics, and public health informatics.
The CRIO will collaborate with investigators, IT professionals, and Penn Medicine leadership to create a translational clinical research information ecosystem that includes and supports a broad community of researchers, practitioners, and administrators. A critical goal of the position is to develop strategies, design, implement, and optimize systems to support the integration of research with patient care to create a state-of-the-art learning healthcare environment
Successful applicants will have strong training and skills to collaborate on translational clinical research. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in medicine, biomedical informatics, epidemiology, information systems, biostatistics, or related field and have demonstrated expertise and experience in clinical research informatics. The faculty appointment will be in an appropriate department in the Perelman School of Medicine.
