Description Cellular Research, Inc., a biotechnology research and development company founded in 2011 by innovators from Silicon Valley and Stanford University, was recently acquired by Becton Dickinson and has become an integral part of the new start-up Genomics business at BD. Our mission is to revolutionize life science research by enabling high-resolution investigation of single cells and limited samples, thereby creating new benchmarks and delivering new capabilities in discovery and drug development. Cellular Research has developed Molecular Indexing to deliver these capabilities. Molecular Indexing is a revolutionary technology that enables direct and precise counting of individual molecules, genes, chromosomes, and other genetic materials in very small samples and individual cells.
The successful candidate will work with a team of software developers, bioinformaticians, and wet lab scientists in a very exciting and cutting edge field of single cell genomics and expression analysis to develop analytical, statistical, and visualization algorithms, implement tools and software pipelines used to analyze large multidimensional biological datasets, e.g. DNA/RNA sequencing data.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct research using data science and computational biology techniques. Transfer existing algorithms/pipelines into a production context, measure performance and optimize as appropriate Develop analysis algorithms and software tools. Work closely and collaborate effectively with bioinformatics and bench scientists to help advance the company’s R&D and commercial goals.
Qualifications
PhD in bioinformatics, computer science with relevant bioinformatics experience, biology or similar. – PhD highly preferred, will consider Masters or Bachelor degree with below required experience. Minimum of 8 years’ experience in bioinformatics and software development. Python programming skills and proficiency in data analysis using Python and R. Experience implementing NGS data analysis pipelines in a production context. Experience with Linux, shell (e.g. Bash) scripting. Team-oriented, strong communicator. Able to prioritize and deliver results with a high emphasis on quality, technical rigor, and attention to detail.
Preferred Skills
Experience with network analysis, machine learning, and deep learning algorithms highly desirable Experience with Agile software development Experience with cloud (e.g. Amazon Web Services) and HPCC environments (e.g. SGE/UGE) Experience with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL) and SQL language.
